Surviving the cold – a few basics

Hopefully people will add to this in the thread. Correct any mistakes too! But here goes with some basics.

Hypothermia can kill in hours, or even minutes in water. One way to stave it off is to keep moving, to generate body heat. But you must avoid generating sweat!

We lose heat in several ways depending on circumstances:

1. Infrared (thermal) radiation
2. Convection
3. Evaporation
4. Conduction
5. Wind chill
6. Getting wet
