FD pros

FD is due in today. My purpose is to fd dog chow. I have been raw packing chicken so it cooks while canning. The Plan is to cook the meats, starting with chicken, then dicing and then FD so it is a ready to go meal. But can you FD cooked oatmeal or rice? I am on the fence about doing " ingredients" or making whole meals then FD. I know we have some pros here so open to suggestions. And yep…I am wading thru the 257 pages here but I am also up to my whatever studying. I figure on cooking the…

Caution for Approaching Dogs?

As frivolous as it may sound, what I'd like to specifically discuss is the "norm" in dealing with dogs, be it curious or aggressive ones, who approach and enter your personal space.

I know a lot of people handle encounters with dogs differently. Some people are dog people, they bend down and reach out their arms to welcome and pet approaching dogs. I've also known people who kind of just freeze up like a statue, allowing the dog to stick there nose everywhere, including into private areas…

Manual meat grinders … will this work?

I have digestive issues, have had for decades (an unnecessary medical procedure when I was 18! Natural medicine would have fixed me, if I'd only known then what I know now).

I found a recipe after a couple decades wishing I could make my own, for making sprout bread that is just sprouted rye or wheat berries.

I have an excellent juicer, the Green Power, a double-auger machine that I bought in 1996 for just under $1,000. But the tough sprouts finally caused some of the parts of one of…

Threaded Barrel Pistols

I am looking for a pistol I can shoot with a legal suppressor. Have been waiting till the old Obama and Biden era folks got removed from the ATF.

So far I have figured that real functional suppressors are bigger than this show in movies, and they do not suppress as much either.

So I am probably looking for a large or duty sized gun.

Homesteaders: What firearms are most useful to a homesteader?

Homesteading is expensive, and there is never enough money to get everything you need.
Assuming you're not an anti-gun family, based on your experience, what caliber/configuration firearm will be most useful for me to purchase: air rifle, 22lr rifle, 12ga shotgun, centerfire deer rifle, 9mm handgun, M4?

Scanning in a post-disaster world

I've been noodling around with ideas for scanning long-term after a disaster, and I tend to think that a lot of what we scan for now won't make sense. Radio systems liked trunked systems, public service with large base stations, encrypted systems, etc. all require a lot of electricity and other supporting infrastructure, which will likely either be specifically targeted or eventually fail after some period of time. My current thinking is that long-term after a disaster you should focus on…
