Alternative fuels in a kerosene “Hurricane” lantern

Greetings all,

I’m just curious if anyone has tried running alternative (ie, other than kerosene) fuels in a hurricane style lamp. Obviously, I’d expect diesel to work, but what about biodiesel? Or plain motor oil? Or just plain canola?

I don’t want to do the experiment myself if I don’t have to, but I will if it comes down to it.
